Statue of Martha Christina Tiahahu
Martha Christina Tiahahu was a female heroine from Nusa Laut Island, who joined the armed resistance against the Dutch occupiers in 1817 when she was just 17. She was captured, and eventually died on January 1818 by hunger-strike and poor health aboard a Dutch warship while being brought to her exile in Java Island. Her corpse was buried in Banda Sea. Today her statue, an icon of Ambon city, is standing at a park on the mountainous area of Karang Panjang, where people can relax, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take pictures.
