bambu gila
Bambu gila (literally, "crazy bamboo") is a traditional dance-game usually performed by 7 young men holding tightly to a bamboo stick, approximately 2.5 m long and 8 cm in diameter, which has been magically filled with so-called "spirits of the ancestors". After some mantra's are recited by a pawang (diviner) upon the bamboo, it can actually move in any direction and manner as the pawang wishes, with those 7 male dancers holding it absolutely unable to resist it. Accompanied by tifa (traditional percussion instrument) beat, this dance-game is usually performed in special events and feasts in Central- and Northern Maluku.
