Pan Troglodytes is the species name for Chimpanzee. The word "Pan" refers to the genus of the species of great apes. While "Troglodytes" is a Greek word for "Cave-Dweller". This term was coined by Johann Friedrich Blumenbach in his book on the natural varieties of the human genus published in 1776. The English name chimpanzee came from a Bantu language of Angola.
