Chamaeleons

The English word is very similar: Chameleon. The English word chameleon (also chamaeleon) derives from Latin chamaeleō, a borrowing of the Greek (khamailéōn), a compound of khamaí which means "on the ground" and léōn which means "lion". The literal translation would be "Lion on the ground", which would sound weird considering lion can't change color and doesn't hunt with its long toungue.
