Launched in 1976, Apple I is the name of Apple Computer's first generation personal computer. It was mostly just a circuit board as buyers of the Apple I had to add their own computer case, power supply switch, transformers, keyboard, and video display. The Apple I retailed for $666.66.

On March 5, 1975 Steve Wozniak came up with the idea during a meeting of the Homebrew Computer Club in Gordon French's garage in Palo Alto, California. He immediately set out to design and hand-build what would become the Apple I computer. Wozniak's friend Steve Jobs had the idea of selling the computer. In order to finance Apple's first product, Jobs sold his only means of transportation, a VW Microbus, and Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator for $500. It was demonstrated in July 1976 at the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto, California.

Soon Steve Jobs obtained an order from a local computer store for 100 computers at $500 each. To fulfill the $50,000 order, they obtained $20,000 in parts at 30 days net and delivered the finished product in 10 days.

In June 2012, a working version of the Apple I sold at auction for $374,500
