A competition between two to five players where each hole is competed for individually. A wager (called a "skin") is made on each hole. The skin is awarded to the player who wins the hole outright.

If a hole is not won outright by any player, the hole is said to be "halved" and a "carry" results: That wager is added to the wager of the next hole.
