set associative cache
In a set associative cache, there are a fixed number of locations (at least two) where each block can be placed. A set associative cache with n locations for a block is called an n-way set associative cache. An n-way set associative cache consists of more than one set, each of which consists of n blocks. A block can be placed in any location (element) of that set. Increasing the associativity level (number of blocks in a set) increases the cache hit rate.
