Preconception counseling and care involves identifying and managing conditions and behaviors that could put the woman or her baby at risk. For women with HIV, this includes counseling on the risks and benefits of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to prevent mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV.
