positive shape
Positive means that the shape has something inside of it, such as the irregular image of a face where two eyes are drawn in. At the same time, positive shapes are shapes which are delineated by the edges of solid objects. A positive shape can also be defines as a visual mass formed by an object that occupies a substantial portion of the space within the frame. The boundaries of many positive shapes are defined by distinct edges, but some amorphous objects such as clouds and flames may have fuzzy edges. In addition, groups of points and lines can agglomerate to the extent that the overall visual effect is that of a shape.
