An explant comprising the meristem (meristematic dome) and usually one pair of leaf primordia. Also refers to explants originating from apical meristem tip or lateral or axillary meristem tip. Do not confuse the meristem tip with the term "shoot tip," which is much larger and usually has more immature leaves and stem tissue.
