listicle

A listicle is a short form of writing that uses a list as its main point and structure, sometimes using numbers in its title, "10 Best iPhone Apps for 2015".

Listicle comes from the fusion of two words list and article and are easy for content producers to create or plagiarize, and unlike news content, they remain "relevant" for years.

Because listicles are quick and easy to read, websites using listicles are more likely to obtain higher visitor and click rates. They are also bite-sized and frivolous enough to be shared on social media.

Some examples of listicles include "10 Romcoms That Were Based on Greek Tragedies" and "15 Shocking Things Your Cat Doesn't Tell You".

Writers say that "listicles" are changing the face of journalism and the term "listicles" has been so widely used that Oxford Dictionary has added it on their dictionary.
