Geometric shapes are images that use mathematically described geometric shapes (arcs, curves, lines) and points rather than bitmapped pixels to create objects. Geometric shapes, by contrast, can be either made by individuals or appear naturally. A wall of a house, for instance, usually is square or rectangular, and honeycombs have a hexagonal pattern. This type of shape can be found in an urban setting since it contains lots of rectangles, but at the same time it can be found in other types of settings as well. Events such as fairs and festivals will usually have a large variety of shapes. Less common geometric shapes such as the partial circles formed by umbrellas tend to be more distinctive than the rectangles and other polygons that are more prevalent in urban scenes.
