Generally called the Cruciatus Curse, it is also one of the three Unforgivable Curses. It inflicts intense pain on the victim. The pain is described as having hot knives driven into the target. In order to cast this curse, one must have a true desire to cause pain to the victim. It cannot be cast out of spite or anger. In Latin, "Crucio" means "I torture."
