The containment Policy was adopted by the United States during the Cold War era, in order to prevent the spread of communism abroad. This policy was the US response to a series of moves by the USSR to expand its communist spheres in eastern Europe, china , Vietnam etc.. this policy was suggested by the US Diplomat George Kennan and was first adopted in 1947 by president Truman's administration.
