It is a public research university, under Federal Government, with multiple campuses throughout the country. CIIT is Pakistan's first exclusive institute of Information Technology. Its primary campus is located in urban area of Islamabad. The university is co-educational, established in 1998, was awarded Charter by the Government of Pakistan in 2000 with the joint government and inter-governmental Comsats efforts, the university offers undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral studies programmes in various academic disciplines.
