The basic unit of data in a movie resource, sprite, or other QuickTime data structure. There are a number of different atom types, including movie atoms, track atoms, and media atoms. There are two varieties of atoms: QT atoms, which may contain other atoms, and classic atoms, which do not contain any other atoms.
