Gorilla Glass is a specialized toughened glass developed and manufactured by Corning, now in its fourth generation and engineered to be thin, light and damage-resistant. The alkali-aluminosilicate sheet glass is used primarily as cover glass for portable electronic devices, including mobile phones, portable media players, portable computer displays, and some television screens and is manufactured in in Harrodsburg, Kentucky (USA), Asan (Korea), and in Taiwan. The brand name is a registered trademark. To give the glass its properties, it remains untouched by human hands during its manufacture and is immersed in a molten alkaline salt bath using ion exchange — creating residual compressive stress at the surface, thereby giving the glass surface its increased strength, ability to contain flaws, and overall crack-resistance.
